The Christian life is a pilgrimage. Eugene Peterson calls it a “long obedience in the same direction.”
For the rest of the summer we’re going to be looking at a pilgrim song book known as the “Psalms of Ascent”. The Psalms of Ascent are a grouping of songs that Israelite pilgrims would sing on their trip to Jerusalem to worship. They were songs that trained our Hebrew ancestors (and us if we’ll sing them!) in what it means to always be worshipping…to worship on our way to worship. Singing these songs over and over will help us understand that the longer we walk with God, the further up and the further in that we go, the bigger our God and his wonders become.
Listen in as we lay the ground work for the series and talk about how these songs help us in a long obedience in the same direction.
